Finally, Reese Witherspoon is going back to her romantic comedy roots, and she’s doing so at Netflix. The Academy Award-winning actress has set Your Place or Mine as her next starring feature, which will soon make its way to our Netflix watch lists.
Although Witherspoon hasn’t appeared in a film since 2018’s A Wrinkle in Time, she’s been plenty busy since then with the second season of HBO’s Big Little Lies, Hulu’s limited series Little Fires Everywhere, and the Apple TV+ standout The Morning Show, for which she earned an Emmy Award nomination for season 2.
The businesswoman, book club leader, and producer also lent her voice to the animated sequel Sing 2, in which she reprises her role from the first blockbuster, and executive produced the film adaptation of the best-selling novel Where the Crawdads Sing.
But while we wait for the much talked about Legally Blonde 3, it’s time to get excited for Your Place or Mine. Reese Witherspoon teams up with another rom-com staple and former Netflix star for a laugh-out-loud comedy that you won’t want to miss.
Your Place or Mine synopsis
If the plot of the upcoming Netflix rom-com sounds a little familiar, it’s because the movie is reminiscent of rom-coms past, like The Holiday. In the film, friends who live on different coasts of the country exchange homes for one week and their lives completely change.

Two long-distance best friends change each other’s lives when she decides to pursue a lifelong dream and he volunteers to keep an eye on her teenage son.
Your Place or Mine cast
Of course, Reese Witherspoon leads the film, and The Ranch star Ashton Kutcher plays the film’s other lead. It remains to be seen if Witherspoon and Kutcher play the central best friends or if they will ultimately wind up love interests.
According to IMDb, Grey’s Anatomy star Jesse Williams will also be in the movie, though his character details haven’t yet been specified. Your Place or Mine comes from writer-director Aline Brosh McKenna, who created The CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and has also written such moves as The Devil Wears Prada, 27 Dresses and Cruella.

When is Your Place or Mine filming?
On Oct. 2, 2021, Reese Witherspoon announced the start of filming on Instagram with a photo of her in character walking down a New York City street. She tagged Kutcher in the photos, though he doesn’t appear in any of them, lending to the opposite coast synopsis.
It’s currently unclear how long filming took place, but we expect production lasted through the remainder of 2021 and possibly into the beginning of 2022. As the film gears up for release, filming has now definitely wrapped.
Your Place or Mine release updates
Throughout 2022, Netflix and Reese Witherspoon haven’t shared too many details about the movie, but Witherspoon and Kutcher will both appear during the TUDUM fan event on Sept. 24 to share new information about the release of the romantic comedy.
For now, pencil in a tentative release date for Your Place or Mine in late 2022 or early 2023. At the earliest, we could see the romantic comedy as a special treat to break up the holiday release, but we could also expect the high-profile rom-com offering as a Valentine’s Day tentpole.
